Ralph Steiner photographed clouds over a fifteen-year period. For him, looking at clouds was an exercise in visualization. In addition to Steiner's stunning cloud images, viewer's reactions to the clouds in the form of proposed titles are included at the end of each section. The different sections on clouds as "the big sky," creatures, celebrations, dreams, magic, and signs and portents illustrate how clouds can capture the full range of emotions. An appendix on tips for photographing clouds, gleaned from Steiner's years of experience, is included for those technically inclined.
