An extraordinary portrait by W. Eugene Smith of his daughter Juanita at about eight years old. The picture was made for a LIFE Magazine essay entitled "My Daughter Juanita" published on September 21, 1953.
Original gelatin silver photograph; estate stamp "This authenticated photograph was in the private collection of W. Eugene Smith at the time of his death--October 15, 1978", along with several inventory numbers in pencil on verso. Image size is 13 x 10-1/2 in. on 14 x 11 in. double weight paper with a smooth, luster surface. Matted on 20 x 16 in. board. Negative made c. early 1950s. Print made later, most probably in the 1970s.
Very Good with the following minor imperfections: several minor dimples; one 3/4 in. crease and one small nick in emulsion; several unspotted specks; several small brown stains on verso; slight edge soiling to the paper. |
