Enchantements sur Paris. Text by Jacques Yonnet. Illustrated with Photographs by Robert Doisneau and Drawings by the Author. Denoel, Paris, 1957. Second edition. Octavo. Original beige cloth stamped in brown; dustjacket with wrap-around photograph of Paris by Doisneau. 307 pp. with eleven photographic plates by Doisneau.
A rarely seen book; Doisneau's photographs have a poetic, haunting sensibility and a vintage look. The panoramic dustjacket image is picturesque and not well known. After an interlude making forged passports for the Resistance during the war, Doisneau returned to prowling the streets of Paris with a camera and made charming, witty images of his beloved city for more than half a century.
A near fine copy except for some time-darkening along the top and bottom edges of the covers. The dustjacket is a bit sunned on the spine and some edges are very slightly rubbed. In acetate jacket protector. |
