THIS LOT CONSISTS OF TWO BOOKS FROM THE MASTERS OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES: The Photojournalist: Mark & Leibovitz(1974)[shown] and The Private Experience: Elliott Erwitt(1974).
The Photojournalist: Mary Ellen Mark & Annie Leibovitz. Text by Adrianne Marcus. An Alskog Book published with Thomas Y. Crowell Company, Inc., New York, 1974. First edition. Quarto. Cloth in photo-illustrated dustjacket.
96 pp. Published before either photographer was widely known, this book reveals much about their motivations, intentions, technique, early successes. "If Annie uses her camera to reinforce the public image of her subjects, Mary Ellen uses hers as a tool of exploration to peel away layers of convention that are usually all we see of people." [Quoted from the text, p. 56.] The photographs are printed in black-and-white and color. Fine in near fine dustjacket; jacket has one very small edge tear (no loss) at top edge of front panel and a bit of rubbing at the tips of the corners.
The Private Experience: Elliott Erwitt. Text by Sean Callahan with the editors of Alskog, Inc. An Alskog Book published with Thomas Y. Crowell Company, Inc., New York, 1974. First edition. Quarto. Cloth in photo-illustrated dustjacket. 96 pp. Erwitt is famously known for making photographs and 'anti-photographs,' as he like to divide his images into those he considers professional from those he considers personal, and for the wit infused into his images. Both black-and-white and color photographs are included. Fine in near fine dustjacket; minimal rubbing to corners and some rubbing on back panel of jacket.
