Photographs of a Decade. Horst. Edited by George Davis. J.J. Augustin, New York, 1944. First edition. Large quarto. Cloth. 133 pp.
An early and striking collection of Horst's portrait work, including many fashion shots. Born in Germany, Horst P. Horst began photographing as a student of George Hoyningen-Huene. He developed his own style of portraiture and clientele while working for Diana Vreeland at Vogue after he moved to America. This collection includes stunning portraits of actresses (Dietrich, Crawford and many others) and actors, artists, fashion designers, and socialites, as well as portraits used in advertisements (including his famous corset image). Printed in warm and luminous brownish-black tones by The George Grady Press in New York.
A very good copy, with wear at the very top and bottom of spine (about 1/8 inch)and a small light smudge at bottom of front cover. A few images with very light surface touchmarks. In clear glassine.
