Russell Lee Photographer. Introduction by Robert Coles. Text by F. Jack Hurley. Morgan & Morgan, Dobbs Ferry, NY, 1978. 208 pp. Signed on front fly-leaf. Oblong quarto. Clothbound in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Numerous black-and-white illustrations.
This volume, the first book-length retrospective of Lee's life and work as a documentary photographer, demonstrates both Lee's approach to his subject matter and the diversity of his work. Included are photographs made for the Farm Security Administration, for the Air Transport Command in World War II, work done for private industry in the 1950s, and more recently, photographs made in Texas where Lee lived until his death in 1986. Hurley's biographical text describes this self-effacing master of the thoughtful, ungarnished document, tracing his life and photographic career.
Fine in a Fine, price-clipped dust jacket, the lamination of the dust jacket flaps show some wrinkling; a very slight 'kiss' to crown of spine.
