the Life of the Führer]. Foreword by Dr. Joseph Goebbles. Articles by Schreck, Dietrich, Hess, Bruckner, Ley, Speer, Schirach, and other Nazis. Color frontispiece; 192 B/W halftones and five color litho plates pasted within the text; Quarto; Adolf Hitler embossed in gold on spine and front cover; swastika also in gold on spine
This Nazi propaganda piece is interesting as an historical document. Produced like a snapshot album, complete with numerous glossy black-and-white halftones tipped in, this volume appears to be number 15 (number stamped on spine) of various books published by a cigarette manufacturer. The photos show Hitler playing to crowds, in "private moments," performing various duties as the Führer, along with documentary photographs of the militia. Also included are five color halftones of Hitler's own paintings. A color halftone of a painting of the Führer is the frontispiece.
Front cover shows some abrasions with slight water stain to top; unobtrusive small hole close to spine; edges and corner show wear with some of the orange cover. Internally, top and bottom corners are bumped; some signatures separating but still held tightly; pages are lightly tanned; the glossy halftones are fresh-looking; difficult to find better copies of this pictorial record of the Third Reich at its pinnacle.
