THIS LOT CONSISTS OF TWO BRASSAI TITLES: The Secret Paris of the 30's and Jacques Prevert, Paroles, with a wrap-around photo-illustrated cover by Brassai.
The Secret Paris of the 30's. Pantheon Books, New York, 1976. First American edition. Quarto. Cloth in photo-illustrated dustjacket. Unpaged. Brassai's photo-illustrated memoir about dance halls, brothels, opium dens, and outdoor balls of Paris by night in the thirties. Includes chapters on Kiki of Montparnasse and the Folies Bergere. At one time these were Brassai's 'secret' photographs, but with changing times they were finally able to be published.
The book is a near fine copy; dustjacket has a few very small edge tears and one approximately half-inch triangular piece lacking at bottom front hinge (both the cloth and dustjacket are black, so the missing piece is not too obvious).
Paroles, Jacques Prevert. Le Point du Jour NRF, Paris, 1949. Small octavo. Illustrated stiff wrappers with a photograph by Brassai of graffiti and the remains of a poster on a wall that wraps around both covers; handwritten title in red superimposed on the photograph. 244 pp. + ads. Prevert's first published book of poems, originally published by Le Calligraphie in 1945 in a larger format. A very good copy, with some of the lamination over the spine discreetly peeling.
