"This edition consists of 550 copies. The book was set in English Monotype Scotch at Golgonooza Letter Foundry by Julia Ferrari and Dan Carr. The text was printed by Heritage Printers. Paul Taylor made the photogravure plates and printed them with Clary Nelson at Renaissance Press"--Colophon.
Siskind's final body of work consisted of painterly, abstract photographs of road tar patterns. In this lavish production, they are reproduced in rich, inky gravure and juxtaposed with Whitman's 1856 paean to carefree wanderlust, Song of the Open Road.
