Flowers. Photographs by Irving Penn. Harmony Books, New York, 1980. 94 pp. Quarto. First edition. SIGNED on title page. Clothbound in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Numerous color reproductions.
Irving Penn's fourth book evolved out of assignments for VOGUE magazine. From 1967 to 1973 Penn photographed different varieties of flowers for each Christmas issue. However, most of the photographs selected for this book are reproduced for the first time. As he explained, his preference was to photograph flowers "when they have already begun spotting and browning and twisting on their way back to the earth." His ability to photograph the flowers like fashions verges on the uncanny.
Exceptionally bright; Fine+ in Fine+ jacket.
