ART/new york No.58
Produced by Paul Tschinkel. Interviews with Cindy Sherman, Helene Winer and Peter Schjeldahl.
Cindy Sherman's photography explores the place of women in society and culture through the artist's 'self-portraits' in which she plays characters who represent female archetypes as portrayed in movies and other media. Her personas range from glamorous sex symbols to idealized fantasies of domestic life. This ART/new york program covers Sherman's first exhibition of color photographs in 1981, as well as a 2000 showing at the same location, Metro Pictures.
