Photographs by Misaki Kawai.
Decathlon Books, 2008. 64 pp., Black & white illustrations on grey newsprint, 8½x11".
The Alaskan is the third entry in Decathlon’s planned ten volume
series of artist’s books. Affordably-priced, the series
uses cheap production values to its advantage, reveling in a
gloriously low-res aesthetic. Japanese-born Misaki Kawai is
known for her unique brand of handmade, brightly-colored
psychedelic craft objets, collages and zines. At once cute
and perverse, the Alaskan features photographs of off-kilter
characters and everyday objects turned delirious.
