Announcing Two New Online Portfolios by Jo Whaley
photo-eye is pleased to announce the launching of two on-line portfolios “Entomology” and “Natura Morta” by Jo Whaley. These extraordinary, unmanipulated color photographs have all been made with a view camera. Whaley's inspiration is derived from an avid interest in early European painting, the natural sciences, and her experience as a theatrical scenic artist. Both the Los Angeles County Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Art hold prints from these portfolios in their permanent collections.

DIDIER MASSARD: Images.
Didier Massard's color landscape photographs are breathtaking in their dramatic light and composition. When one understands that these exquisitely detailed images are actually miniature table top landscapes constructed by Massard, they become even more extraordinary. The resulting photograph evokes a fantastical world reminiscent of a magical realism painting.

MIGUEL RIO BRANCO: Entre Os Olhos, O Deserto.
One is thrown immediately into Rio Branco's visual world, the first scenes of which are a vast desert. But from here the viewer is led haphazardly through a free-association of dream-like imagery. Every other page is a fold-out, each time producing a triptych of full-bleed photographs.

LEE MILLER: Portraits from a Life.
Miller left the United States for Paris in 1929 as a legendary fashion model; her goal was to study photography, which she did under Man Ray, becoming a disciple of the Surrealists and quickly gaining a reputation as a fine documentary and fashion photographer. This is the only in-print book on her life, and is a fine retrospective.
