The 13th International Los Angeles Photographic Art Exposition is being held this weekend January 15-18, 2004. Eighty galleries and private dealers from across the country and around the globe will participate in the largest and longest running photographic art exhibition in the West. The finest photographic art, from the earliest 19th Century photographic experiments to the most contemporary photography and photo-based art, will be exhibited for sale. Last year’s event saw record attendance, attracting over 6000 visitors, and more are expected this year. This is an unparalleled opportunity for collectors, curators and photographers to view thousands of images. Works by Diane Arbus, Ruth Bernhard, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Imogen Cunningham, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Lauren Greenfield, Lynn Geesaman, Lewis Hine, Andre Kertesz, Man Ray, Luis Gonzalez Palma, Aaron Siskind, Paul Strand, Weegee, Gary Winogrand and many others will be included.

Francesco Scavullo, 1921-2004
Fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo, famous for his pictures of celebrities and high-style, and for his many covers for Cosmopolitan magazine, died of heart failure, Tuesday, January 6th. He was 82.

 | Ward 81 and Time in New England with Gravure, Closing Soon Mary Ellen Mark's Ward 81 is a powerful and intimate portrait of the life of women in a psychiatric ward in The Oregon State Hospital shot over a period of thirty-six days. Mark first visited the ward in 1975 when she documented the filming of director Milos Forman's Oscar winning film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Closing this week: Paul Strand's classic Time in New England Limited Edition of 450 numbered copies accompanied by a hand-pulled dust-grained photogravure entitled 'Iris, 1928' by Paul Strand. The gravure includes a cover sheet signed by Hazel Strand (Mrs. Paul Strand) on behalf of his estate. |
