OnLine/OnSite: photo-eye Gallery Opening
photo-eye Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of OnLine/OnSite, our first annual show of selected works from our online Photographer's Showcase. These 16 emerging artists, from throughout the country, were chosen from the over 100 photographers exhibiting online in our juried Showcase. Each of these artists has a remarkably fresh vision, ranging from Patricia Levey's politically charged self-portraits, Aline Smithson's hilarious, staged pictures of her mother, to Thinh Le's exquisite 360 degree panoramas of Vietnam city life.
Join us for the opening of the show Friday, March 4th, 2005 from 5-7pm. The show is currently on exhibit and runs through April 9th, 2005. Our photo-eye Gallery hours are 11-5, Tues-Sat. and is located at 370 Garcia Street in Santa Fe, NM. Call 505-988-5159 for information or directions.

Hans Bol's portfolio Het Formaat van Waterland / Waterland Images
"In my portfolio Het Formaat van Waterland ("Waterland Images"), I focused mainly on the direct surroundings of my home in which the presence of water is ubiquitous and beauty is omnipresent...I show landscapes that have more or less been left in peace and have been respected—a phenomenon seldom seen in the Dutch context with regards to landscape. The Dutch concept of landscape and nature is that it can be planned, designed and subsequently constructed."—Hans Bol

 | Open for Bidding Scarce Japanese Photobooks Ikko Narahara was a founding member of the famed VIVO agency in Japan. España Grand Tarde's dramatic close-ups, erratic croppings, and full-page bleeds show the clear influence of William Klein. The high contrast, grainy images—richly printed in gravure—give the work a tone that is at once highly impressionistic, raw and visceral. A fascinating and much sought-after book!
Other scarce Japanese titles currently on the block include Nobuyoshi Araki: Erotos (SIGNED); Daido Moriyama: Memories (SIGNED); WHAT NOW?! Japan Through the Eyes of Shomei Tomatsu; K. Abe: Jazz. Pictorial Essay; and Yasuhiro Ishimoto: 1989 Seibu Museum catalogue (SIGNED) + Chicago, Chicago. Stay tuned for other material from this primo consignment.

Mark Cohen: Grim Street
"[Though he] first came to the attention of the photography world in 1973 with a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York....Cohen's complex and influential body of work is presented for the first time in Grim Street, an astonishing collection of Americana as original and effective as the work of Robert Frank, Garry Winogrand, or Weegee...."—the publisher

Chan Chao: Echo
"Burmese-born artist Chan Chao received wide critical acclaim for his first publication, Burma: Something Went Wrong (Nazraeli Press, 2000). Echo, the artist's second publication, is comprised of 28 portraits of female nudes; a far more common subject than that of his previous series, but one handled with the same grace, mutual trust between subject and artist, and masterful control of natural light, color and composition, for which the artist has become well known. "—the publisher
