Lori Nix's Portfolio: Lost
"I take pleasure in bringing to life the narratives I draw from newspaper headlines, books and absurd real life situations...My photographs serve as evidence to the viewer, of the consequences of a world gone wrong. Not the objective evidence, per se of a crime photograph but the unfolding of life's dramas frozen with the cool objectivity of an architect's model of his own creation. What comes into view is the decisive moments in life where all the dangers and mishaps come together to create poetry."—Lori Nix |

Domestic Vacations
photo-eye is pleased to introduce the newest member of the gallery's roster, Julie Blackmon, who came to us through the photo-eye Showcase. Julie works in both color and black and white pointing the camera primarily toward her own children and those of her extended family. In her compelling black and white photographs she is focused mainly on the idea of play and imagination. Julie breaks new ground in her color work creating striking tableaus which she says are "a re-creation of everyday moments." Speaking of herself and her work Julie explains: "As an artist and as a mother, I believe life's most poignant moments come from the ability to fuse fantasy and reality: to see the mythic amidst the chaos." To this statement the photographs are a true testament. |

Lise Sarfati: The New Life La Vie Nouvelle
"Though undeniably photodocumentary in nature, Sarfati's work is defined through an opposition to the editorial urge to fix narratives to her subjects. Her images create a loose, layered and intensely rich visual project that allows us, the viewers, to consider the complexities of any place or time, triggering emotions and thoughts that move well beyond the ostensible subjects of her photographs.—Clare Grafik, Photographers Gallery, London" READ MORE
