Lauren Simonutti's portfolio Home
"A house, to which one expects to return but does not, becomes a relic.
I stepped out the door one day for what I anticipated would be a moment and did not return for weeks. The impetus for the absence is a fascinating, devastating, poignant and somewhat tragic story, which I will not tell."—Lauren Simonutti

Masao Yamamoto: Masao Yamamoto:
Masao Yamamoto's gorgeous new monograph, , provides an ideal forum for his exquisite installations of intimate, dreamlike photographs. Working from a Zen philosophy of "emptiness", Yamamoto makes images that are essentially vignettes of nature and our intersection with it, ruminating over the passage of time and memory.

Kiyoshi Koishi: Early Summer Nerves Kiyoshi Koishi: Early Summer Nerves
In 1933, Japanese photography was highly institutionalized, and pictorialism was the overwhelmingly dominant mode. Kiyoshi Koishi's work was a reaction against this; he explored the new path forged by his European counterparts Lszl Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray, employing their photographic techniques but from a distinctly Japanese perspective.
