Mihai Mangiulea's portfolio Edges/Lisières
"It is difficult for me to say how much outside influence is in my work and why I am photographing this space or that one; it's maybe easier to say what is coming from inside. I am searching to encounter an interior image that seems to me [is] being anticipated or approximated by reality, reality that acts like a medium. I feel that the way to this image is there, in front of me, like a dissimulated presence."
—Mihai Mangiulea

| Ralph Eugene Meatyard: The Family Album of Lucybelle Crater (Scarce Hardbound Edition!) The Family Album of Lucybelle Crater was produced during the last two years of Meatyard's life. David Levi-Strauss describes it as the artist's "...purest statement. In its forthrightness and gothic loopiness, it manages to illuminate two truths simultaneously: that we are all the same, really; and that we are all different, under the masks."—quoted in Roth, et. al., The Book of 101 Books |

Nan Goldin: The 2007 Hasselblad Award
"The 2007 Hasselblad Award winner is Nan Goldin, easily one of the most significant photographers of our time. Adopting the direct aesthetics of snapshot photography, she has documented her own life and that of her friends and others on the margins of society for more than 30 years, offering frank depictions of drug abuse, cross-dressing and alternative sexualities."—the publisher READ MORE

Malick Sidibe: Chemises
"Visiting as many as five of these
venues in one evening, Sidibé would capture Bamako's youth in a close-up snapshot style that conveys
the joyful conviviality of this era, and the blending of African and western cultures in dances
like the Mali Twist, and in curious combinations of traditional and European clothing. Sidibé would
then display his carefully numbered index prints, glued onto administrative folders, on his studio
walls for customers—usually the subjects of his photograph—to peruse. These are the "chemises"
of this book's title. As an invaluable document of 1960s Mali, and as a large portion of Sidibé's oeuvre,
Chemises is an essential volume for anyone interested in contemporary African photography."—the publisher READ MORE

Lisa Kereszi: Fantasies
"When Rudolph Giuliani's administration cracked down on Times Square strip clubs in the 1990s, a whole new burlesque movement was born in New York, concentrating less on the strip and more on the tease. The young New York photographer Lisa Kereszi, then an assistant to Nan Goldin, was there with her camera to catch it all happening."—the publisher READ MORE

Andreas Horvath: Heartlands
"It often takes an outsider to see America clearly, and in Heartlands it's the Austrian photographer and filmmaker Andreas Horvath putting his eye on the United States. In this beautifully printed, large-format volume of black and white photography, made in 24 states since 1985, Horvath presents images of the "fly-over states," telling powerful stories of politics, privilege (or lack of it), social aspiration and faded glory."—the publisher READ MORE
