photo-eye Staff Show opens tomorrow December 18th, 5 to 7 pmphoto-eye Staff Show will open in photo-eye Bookstore with a reception on December 18th from 5 to 7pm. The exhibition will run through January 31, 2009.
The exhibition will feature works by Adam Figliola, Anne Kelly, Ben Lerman, Cliff Shapiro, Daniel Espeset, Heather Prichard, Maxine Chelini and Melanie McWhorter. To view some of the images from the show, click here.

Eikoh Hosoe: Barakei

"In the fall of 1961, the photographer Eikoh Hosoe, then in his late 20s, agreed to make a series of portraits of the controversial author Yukio Mishima. They named their collaboration Barakei (bara' meaning 'rose' and 'kei' meaning 'punishment,' although the two decided on Killed by Roses as the English title). The original edition, designed by Kohei Sugiura, established the standard for the two subsequent editions of 1971 (which chimed with Mishima's suicide) and 1985. Aperture now issues this facsimile of the 1963 original, making available once again one of the most infamous and intriguing photobooks of the twentieth century.

This is an open call to all photographers, 34 years of age and under, in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States
to enter our emerging photographers competition Flash Forward.
Our goal with the Flash Forward program is to increase the visibility of young artists.
Year 5 brings: more jurors, bigger prizes, added exhibitions, and further attention.
