This week's staff pick was chosen by gallery associate Anne Kelly.

"Our lives are defined by moments.

Our memories are a series of moments that capture our lives and frame the emotions that surround them. The emotions are fluid, but the moments are both singular and eternal.

These timeless photographs capture a series of moments and allow the viewer to explore the emotions that ebb and flow with them. Like memories, these images have the seemingly counter—intuitive qualities of being highly defined, yet at the same time, being impossible to get close to, no matter how much the viewer tries."—Maria Luisa Morando

Hedi Slimane: Berlin (in shrinkwrap!) Hedi Slimane: Berlin (in shrinkwrap!)
Skinny jeans, the faux-hawk and the return of skinny ties: we have Hedi Slimane to thank for these now ubiquitous fashion statements (in addition to the 'waifish' and slightly anorexic look of male models in recent years). This now-scarce book is one of his major statements. Read More

Mark Steinmetz: South Central Mark Steinmetz: South Central—Signed

Signed copies and limited edition arriving in one to two weeks

"Renowned for his modest yet powerful photographs that capture the sense of displacement and isolation felt by many young Americans, Mark Steinmetz photographed in and around Knoxville, Tennessee to create the work that makes up South Central. The title of the book is derived from the South Central Bell telephone company that serves Knoxville, and their public payphones are a recurring theme in this work; an iconic reminder of the area's socio—economic condition. The artist possesses an uncanny ability to pull folly, aggression and tenderness through his lens simultaneously, and delivers with this book a powerful and touching visual novel of the human condition.

About the Limited Edition:
This special edition of South Central is limited to 25 copies with an original print, numbered and signed by the artist and presented in a clamshell box.

"The visual dynamics of Iranian photography in all its fascinating beauty and heroic resistance is unveiled for the first time, revealing a rich new aesthetics from inside Iran as well as from the Iranian diaspora. Adam Bartos: Yard Sale Photographs Adam Bartos: Yard Sale Photographs—Signed

Signed copies due in March.

"In turning his lens to the random constellations formed by rummaging and perusing, Adam Bartos has struck gold, with an idea so simple it seems odd nobody had thought of it before. His still lifes of 'chance meetings' find compositional fodder in vacuum cleaners, flippers and board games, portrayed to suggest only the tiniest hint of formal properties. The book is introduced with a story by Raymond Carver."—the publisher READ MORE

Nicholas Muellner: The Photograph Commands Indifference Nicholas Muellner: The Photograph Commands Indifference—Signed
"Nicholas Muellner's new book is a personal, historical, and philosophical inquiry into the relationship between photographs and monuments. Built around alternating densities of text and image, each of the thirteen chapters approaches the subject from a different starting point, ranging from reconsiderations of art—historical works, to 1960s era snapshots of monuments in the former Soviet Union."—the publisher READ MORE

Michael Itkoff: Street Portraits Michael Itkoff: Street Portraits—Signed

Signed copies due in three to four weeks.

"Michael Itkoff has traveled the world since 2002 taking portraits of everyday people in the street. In Itkoff's photographs a makeshift backdrop is held behind each of his subjects in London, Sydeny, Hanoi, Bangkok, and New York. This technique, normally reserved for celebrity and commercial portraiture, creates a striking aesthetic isolating the subjects from their urban contexts and allowing them to exist in a shared visual space as part of the same extended family."—the publisher READ MORE

Sandi Haber Fifield: Walking Through the World Sandi Haber Fifield: Walking Through the World—Signed

Signed copies arriving in three to four weeks.

"Walking through the World includes Sandi Haber Fifield's photographs from 2003 to the present. Her grids, diptychs, and installations stretch the boundaries of the traditional frame to mirror the ways in which we gather information visually. The work is born of collisions and alignments that are made as she navigates the world and reinterprets what is in front of her lens. The textured layering of images is suggestive, not definitive, and the work encourages the viewer to examine connections between images as well as the empty spaces linking them."—the publisher READ MORE

Vince Aletti: Male Vince Aletti: Male
"MALE features photographs and artifacts from the collection of the renowned photography critic, curator and collector, Vince Aletti. Amassed over the last 30 years, the collection features a blend of anonymous and iconic imagery from the present back into the nineteenth century. This visual cacophony distinguishes Aletti's taste and appetite as a collector. He surrounds himself with his collection in his apartment, but for the first time, in February, 2008, Aletti assembled a selection of images at White Columns in New York. A sampling from this public display is featured in MALE along with a gatefold documenting the collection as it is installed in his home.
