An Interview with Lisa Kereszi
from Larissa Leclaire
Lisa Kereszi's first monograph, interweaves images of the empty interiors of strip clubs with photographs of new burlesque dancers to create a narrative in between the environment of a fantasy and the expression of one. The tawdry nocturnal spaces are an emotional void, paralleling the possible emptiness of those who occupy the stages of the strip clubs, as well as those who fill the seats as patrons...

| Les Krims: Making Chicken Soup "Les Krims was the bad boy of photography in the late 1960's and 70's. Feminists hated his staged pictures of naked women in absurd and humiliating situations; more sympathetic viewers, taking note of the many images of his mother nude or semi-nude, may have wondered about his mental health. But Mr. Krims had a huge impact on photography at the end of the Modernist era. Along with Lucas Samaras and Duane Michals, he opened the medium to possibilities of imaginative, formal and technical invention that countless artists continue to explore today.——Ken Johnson, The New York Times, April 16,2004 |

FranÇoise Heilbrun: A History of Photography
Copies arriving in 2-3 weeks.
"Twenty-five years after the inauguration of France's first permanent exhibition devoted solely to photography, the Musée d'Orsay continues in its innovative and original thread. This book bears testimony to the unique nature of the museum's collection, noted for its rare finds, their quality, and the sheer number of works it holds. The collection's most—treasured works are exposed here, including a portrait of Baudelaire by Nadar and the recently acquired portrait of Man Ray by Stieglitz."—the publisher READ MORE

Martin D'Orgeval: Touched by Fire
Copies arriving in 2-3 weeks.
"On 1 February 2008 at 5.00 a.m., a fire ripped through Deyrolle, the famous old entomology and taxidermy store in the heart of Paris. Its historic collections of thousands of butterflies and rare insects, stuffed animals and minerals, built up since it opened in 1831, went up in smoke... Stuffed, mounted and classified, the specimens of a wide range of species conserved by this world—renowned institution were at best singed and at worst reduced to ashes."—the publisher READ MORE

Donovan Wylie: Scrapbook
"This has been made all for the love of scrapbooks. For about three centuries in many different countries, a scrapbook or album became the most immediate manner of diary making. In Ireland, this often took on a particular and idiosyncratic form. From the late 1960s until the early 1990s, the turmoil of Northern Ireland was often reflected in these hand—constructed books. Clippings from newspapers, family photos and personal mementos often found their way into highly individual collaged records of daily life. Donovan Wylie and Timothy Prus have recreated a non—sectarian version with the benefit of hindsight."—the publisher READ MORE

Collier Schorr: There I Was
There I Was marks both a shift in medium and a conceptual departure for Collier Schorr. Beginning with her father's images of Snyder at work and Snyder's own snapshots from Vietnam, Schorr then draws on professional reportage pictures to literally sketch out Snyder's monumental journey from Queens to Vietnam and back. These drawings are contrasted with reproductions of vintage car-magazine articles and Schorr's own photographs and portraits. Based entirely on photography, this volume engages with the medium and simultaneously challenges the role of the photograph as document of the past."—the publisher READ MORE

Beginning Adobe Photoshop
with Rick Allred
July 19—25, 2009
This five-day introduction to the concepts, language, and tools of Photoshop is one of our most popular workshops. Participants master the basics of navigation, selection tools, copy and paste functions, layers and photo compositing, image adjustment tools, and filters for interesting visual effects. Through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on application, we explore image adjustment and retouching techniques.

Imagination and Dreams
with Elizabeth Opalenik
July 26—August 1, 2009
This workshop is about searching for that excitement and those images that move and sustain us. We learn to make photographs that express our ideas through various exercises designed to heighten awareness. From portraits to landscapes, images are stepping-stones that trace where the mind has been and they form the unique vision each of us carries through life. Risk-taking is encouraged as we forge new ideas and new paths.

Portraits Wrapped in Silver
with Renie Haiduk
July 19—25, 2009
If you long for the creative ambience of classic black-and-white film and the traditional darkroom, this workshop is an opportunity to liberate your photographs from what Richard Avedon called "the tyranny of technology." We spend the week making black-and-white portraits, working with the alchemy of light on film. Through the hands-on magic of the darkroom, we then transform our images into the unmistakably sensuous format of silver-gelatin prints.
