Announcing photo-eye Editions' First Publication
Habitat Machines by David Trautrimas We're excited to announce that after almost 30 years of specializing in selling photobooks, photo-eye is starting an ambitious publishing program. We have formed a new division, photo-eye Editions, dedicated to publishing limited edition books and an ongoing series of portfolios of works by contemporary photographers.
Our first book, Habitat Machines by David Trautrimas, will be available to order on Friday, July 10th. Limited to 50 signed and numbered copies, it will include the entire suite of twelve images from the Habitat Machines series along with a thirteenth image created especially for our inaugural publication. This additional image will be included as a signed and numbered 11x14 inch print and will not be available in any other form. The book will be printed using archival pigment ink on acid-free paper and will be housed in an elegant anodized aluminum archival box (see above).
Please e-mail us if you would like to receive advance information about this new limited edition book and our new publication series.

DAVID TRAUTRIMAS' FIRST SOLO U.S. EXHIBITION
Artist Reception Friday, July 10, 2009 5-7PM
Exhibition July 10 - September 12, 2009
photo-eye Gallery is pleased to announce Habitat Machines, photographs by David Trautrimas. David will be present for the reception on Friday, July 10, 2009 from 5-7PM.
"With their industrial steampunk aesthetic, and looming, animated postures, David Trautrimas' machines would fit nicely into the sets of Terry Gilliam's clanking dystopia 'Brazil.' Or perhaps post-crash Dubai."—Penelope Green, New York Times, 2009 on the work of David Trautrimas

Mitch Dobrowner: The Still Earth
Reception for Mitch Dobrowner, Friday, July 10, 2009 5-7 at photo-eye Gallery.
Photographing in the deserts of the Southwest, Mitch Dobrowner's photographs capture the quiet endurance of awe-inspiring geological formations and the desert environment. The formations, almost architectural in structure, are beautifully surreal and haunting, set on the backdrop of the vast Southwestern sky. Mitch will be present for the July 10th opening reception.

Guy Tillim: Roma, Citta Di Mezzo—Signed
Signed copies arriving in 4-6 weeks.
"'Guy Tillim's images of Rome are of silent, transient moments that blink between one articulated thought and another. Tillum does not memorialize or claim a sentimental intimacy with his surroundings. He investigates cycles of decay and regeneration in the city with the candour of an outsider and, in the process, he offers another way of feeling and thinking about archetypal and contemporary Rome.'- from the afterword by Nicola-Louise Brandt"—the publisher READ MORE

Roni Horn: Vatnasafn/Library of Water
Copies arriving in 2-4 weeks.
"The distinctive geography, climate and culture
of Iceland has engaged Roni Horn for over 30
years. Her intimate relationship with the island
has led to a multidisciplinary series of works,
including books, drawings, sculpture, texts and
photographs. Located in a converted library
building on a promontory overlooking the
ocean in Stykkishólmur on Iceland?s west coast,
Vatnasafn/Library of Water incorporates Horn's
abiding interest in water and weather, reflection
and illumination, and the relation of these
phenomena to the fluidity of human identity."—the publisher READ MORE

Petra Stavast: Libero
Copies arriving in 4-6 weeks.
"Just like a mystery that slowly unfolds to eventually reveal the truth of the matter,
Stavast's project intertwines the reader in a collection of images to reconstruct a
absorbing story about Italy, migration, Libero and his family. Coming across an
abandoned house in Calabria (Italy) the photographer found a collection of old
photographs and letters and started to search for the people in these pictures in
order to re-tell the story behind the images. The result of her enterprise is delivered
through this collection of found photographs taken by different family members,
correspondence and recent images by Stavast herself— all presented in a special
paper packaging."—the publisher READ MORE

Hiroko Inoue: Inside-Out
Copies arriving in 4-6 weeks.
"'Inside-Out' presents the fruits of a ten year long investigation into the windows found
in various psychiatric institutions, hospitals, sanatoriums, first aid camps,
concentration camps and juvenile prisons. In so doing, Hiroki Inoue focuses at the
same time on the memories of the scenes where tragic events occurred and the
physical spaces where people currently live. The viewer is charmed by the melodious
beauty of the monochrome contrast of light and shade that is framed and filtered by
the windows while being constantly reminded of the painful confines of institutional
space."—the publisher READ MORE

Chris And Bill Gilbert Taylor: Land Arts of the American West
Copies arriving in 1-2 weeks.
"Land art encompasses the full spectrum of human responses to a specific landscape over time. From the perspective of architect Chris Taylor and artist Bill Gilbert, land art ranges from the inscription of pictographs and petrogylphs to the construction of roads, dwellings, and monuments, as well as traces of those actions. It includes gestures both small and grand, directing our attention from potsherd, cigarette butt, and mark in the sand to human settlements, monumental artworks, and military/industrial projects such as hydroelectric dams and decommissioned airfields."—the publisher READ MORE
