Bee Flower's portfolio Megastructure

"Russian urban space consists almost entirely of concrete panel houses of only a few types that are found all across the nation, making most cities look quite alike. At a city's outer limits, the landscape alters abruptly and radically: without the urban sprawl that goes hand in hand with free enterprise, the Socialist City had no suburban state.

I felt captivated by the starkness of shape and color in the outer areas of the city. I was by turns puzzled and thrilled by the bizarre and raw rhythms of the randomly dispersed housing blocks that fail to create streets and boulevards in any definable sense. It all seemed to result from a creative system generously embracing chance... and even failure."—Bee Flowers

Malick Sidibe: Bagadadji Malick Sidibe: Bagadadji
"Sidibe's portraits do not force the artist's vision upon his fellow humans; rather they are photographs that one wants to hold in one's hand, because that is what they were made for. That's why these pictures appear so genuine: it is not of minor merit that they refer to the fortunate coincidence, driven by the anthropological urge to show and leave and image of oneself for posterity; and the intrinsic quality of photography to serve as the faithful mirror of these images." — from the essay by Florian Ebner

Martin Parr: Martin Parr in India 1984 - 2009 Martin Parr in India 1984 - 2009
"In Martin Parr's newest book India there is the ever present banal humor that has accompanied so many of Parr's previous publications. From "Hotel Interiors" to "Wedding Parties" and even portraits of "Indian Cakes" (all sections in the book), Parr's unique social documentary weaves an interesting and often culturally jarring scenario. The snapshots presented are quite different from the assumable western perspective of Indian culture or at least from the perspective of the ideal western tourist. Parr's unique eye reminds us to look at the ordinary and we may just find a little humor along the way." — Antone Dolezal, photo-eye Books
