Nick Brandt's On This Earth, A Shadow Falls
|
|
© from the book On This Earth, A Shadow Falls
|
Available from photo-eye Gallery and signed by Nick Brandt, On This Earth, A Shadow Falls combines the best photographs from Nick Brandt's previous books. It features 36 images from On This Earth and 54 from A Shadow Falls and is the only publication where images from both books will appear in one volume, on a larger scale than the previous editions.
Featuring 300-line quadtone reproductions by Meridian Printing in Rhode Island, and printed under Brandt's supervision, the tonal quality of On This Earth, A Shadow Falls is exceptional. This high quality technique and attention to detail has allowed the book to succeed where the previous volumes have not. For the first time in book form, the offset reproductions closely match the rich, velvety tonality and detail of the original prints.
On This Earth, A Shadow Falls is available exclusively through galleries representing Brandt's work, including photo-eye Gallery. The book includes introductions by Jane Goodall, Alice Sebold, Vicki Goldberg, Peter Singer and Nick Brandt. Each copy is signed by the artist.

Grimaces of the Weary Village by Rimaldis Viksraitis
"With a goat's head here and a pig's head there, Grimaces of the Weary Village is like Old MacDonald's Farm hitting the slaughterhouse. Shot in Lithuania, it is an unglamorous portrayal of life on the farm, a series of portraits of Viksraitis' fellow villagers, people who "...bear their cross without grumbling about their lot." — From the review by Colin Pantall of Rimaldis Viksraitis's Grimaces of the Weary Village

Views from the Reservation by John Willis
"There are several good reasons to own Views from the Reservation. First, royalties from the book will be donated to KILI radio, "the voice of the Lakota Nation." Second, John Willis' black and white photographs are compelling, especially in that, when taken as a whole, they give us some sense of present-day life on the Pine Ridge Reservation, a place where sixty-nine percent of the children live in poverty." — From the review by Ellen Rennard of John Willis's Views from the Reservation

 from the book Killed
|
PPP Editions: Killed, Roy Stryker's Rejects
Killed is a book of photographs that were never meant to be published, photographs that Roy E. Stryker of the Farm Security Administration disapproved of. The images, aptly called "killed," bear the marks of a hole punch, like cartoon bullet holes, marking the images as unacceptable.
William E. Jones' first project with these images was the film "Killed," which later was reformatted into the film "Punctured," which can be viewed below. Starting with the black hole in each image, Jones has created a hypnotic montage of these images, zooming out from the void to reveal the larger image before moving on to the next photograph. It ties each image together, their marks of disapproval forging a unique perspective on the FSA.

Carmen & Alec Soth: Brighton Picture Hunt
"Celebrated American photographer Alec Soth has collaborated with his eight year old daughter Carmen to create a new body of work made in Brighton, specially commissioned by Photoworks for the Brighton Photo Biennial 2010: New Documents, curated by Martin Parr. Like much of Soth's previous work, the photographic journey combines poetic and documentary sensibilities, each photograph and idea leading to the next. People, places and objects are woven amongst local newspaper headlines. Serendipity is at play as text and image combine to make uncanny connections and provide a captivating portrait of a city."—the publisher
