| John Gossage: Four American Photographs (One Picture Book No. 2--COMPLETE SET with 4 Variant Prints Like all titles in Nazraeli's long-running One Picture Book series, each of these volumes contains one original print, tipped into the book. Here, the prints sit on top of a written description of the image itself. Delicately hinged, it allows of peeking under the print in order to read what is printed below. The other "photographs" are in fact not images at all, but rather written descriptions, somewhat in the manner of conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner. "The result is a truly original artists' book which deals with the 'reading' of photographs and the subjectivity of language and vision."—the publisher

photo-eye Book Reviews
|
|
from the book Figures & Fictions
|
Figures & Fictions edited by Tamar Garb"The history of South Africa does not make for easy reading. Race, religion, class, sexuality and gender collide in ways that are not always clear-cut. Visually, this has resulted in a photographic over-reach, an evolutionary fast-tracking where photographers have gone beneath the surface to come up with pictures that make sense in a political landscape where the historical image does not always match the contemporary reality." — from the review by Colin Pantall of Figures and Fictions

from the book TJ / Double Negative
|
TJ / Double Negative by David Goldblatt "David Goldblatt's Johannesburg Photographs 1948 - 2010 is the visual element of TJ / Double Negative. The fictional element, Double Negative, is a novel by Ivan Vladislavic. Together the two parts of this jarringly interesting collaborative project that won the 2011 Kraszna-Krausz Best Photography Book Award form a fragmented view of the fractured city of Johannesburg, South Africa, during and after Apartheid." — from the review by Mary Anne Redding of TJ / Double Negative

Debbie Fleming Caffery: Polly
"During the sugar cane harvesting of 1983, while I was photographing along the Mississippi River, I would often pass an isolated house. The subtle signs of a presence were finally confirmed one day when I noticed smoke coming from the chimney. It was not until the harvesting of the following year that I met the inhabitant of the house, Polly Joseph." — Debbie Fleming Caffery.
Limited edition of 25. Print choice is cover image. Each copy of the limited edition comes with a signed hardcover copy of the book and a signed and numbered gelatin silver print. View the limited edition print here.

Alejandro Cartagena: Suburbia Mexicana
"Alejandro Cartagena photographs the particularities of the suburbs of Monterrey, Mexico which are relatively new and often hastily built, reflecting a general disregard for planning. Over the years, various governmental policies resulted in new, decentralized cities with limited infrastructures where the pursuit of immediate financial gain trumped any interest in sustainability." — the publisher READ MORE
