Lee Friedlander: New Mexico
Starting with this week's newsletter we are highlighting some of our collectible, out-of-print inventory that we have in-stock, available to purchase.

Friedlander has been visiting Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and northern New Mexico since the late 60s. This new volume of work presents a sequence of images made during his travels in these regions between 1995 and the present. Armed with his signature Hasselblad camera and wandering the back roads in an assortment of rental cars, Friedlander has journeyed from the Plaza of Santa Fe to adobe strewn neighborhood barrios and into the gorgeous, high-altitude desert. In Lee Friedlander: New Mexico, we see the same attentive curiosity that we've come to expect. He is a master of creating unity out of diverse shapes and complex tones in the two dimensional picture plane.
Both the regular and limited editions of this beautifully designed book are out-of-print and highly sought after. This limited edition is being sold for nearly $600 elsewhere.

The journey my destination, the nature my sanctuary.
Kneeling to the shrine my invocation fades as the last word of a prayer lasted for the whole pilgrimage.
The body weakens as my soul gets stronger.
The sound of my steps echoes in my soul as the path crosses with my prayers.
Tracks, lines then inner roads as scars healing on this very soil.
Sweat as dew awakening my soul.

With the idea of the American landscape high on his mind in 2011, Objects in Mirror came to be as part of the annual 'Looking over the shoulder of...' program from Utrecht's FOTODOK. photo-eye Gallery is pleased to present a Summer Lecture Series in collaboration with New Mexico Lawyers for the Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to providing artists and arts organizations with pro bono legal assistances and educational programming.
As issues of appropriation and remixing increasingly flood our culture, copyright infringement lawsuits are on the rise. In the final part of our Art Law series, a range of experts from across the legal, business and creative realms of art (an attorney, a dealer, an arts consultant and an appropriation artist), will discuss the creative methods and ideas associated with appropriation in art today.
Using the facts from the high profile Cariou vs Prince appropriation case, the panel will discuss the importance of appropriation and forms of visual referencing in our culture, the differences between transformative works and infringement and whether current copyright laws provide sufficient protection while preserving an artist's freedom to reference the work of others.
All events are free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis.
