photo-eye Bookstore is pleased to host Arthur Meyerson, author of The Color of Light. Since 1974, professional assignments have taken photographer Arthur Meyerson around the world to all 7 continents. Throughout it all, Meyerson's fascination with light, color and the moment has never ceased and he has continued to produce a body of personal work that has grown into an impressive archive, The Color of Light.
Born in Houston in 1949, Arthur Meyerson is a celebrated photographer who has traveled throughout the world photographing for advertising, corporate and editorial clients. He and his work have been featured in numerous publications. Meyerson's photographs have been exhibited internationally and are in many private and public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Wittliff Collection, The Harry Ransom Center and The Library of Congress. A photographer with a strong commitment to his profession, Arthur teaches photography workshops and participates in speaking engagements throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Jamey Stillings' Ivanpah Solar
photo-eye Gallery is very excited to announce a new body of work by represented photographer Jamey Stillings: Ivanpah Solar.
Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, is a massive, near 400 Megawatt, solar thermal electric generation system designed to power over 140,000 homes across Southern California. From its ground breaking in 2009, the project has created quite a footprint in the southeastern desert. Photographed from the air deep in the Mojave Desert of California, Stillings' photographs of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System draw in sharp relief the organic patterns of nature and how we as humankind mark and mar the landscape.

The Ivanpah Solar series will be on view at photo-eye Gallery through the end of November as part of the Solar exhibit.
Stillings will give a talk about this new body of work at the Center For Contemporary Arts - Munoz Waxman Gallery on Sunday, November 11th at 4:00pm. 1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM.

David Alan Harvey: (based on a true story)
"Well, there's a new book out by David Alan Harvey called (based on a true story) and it rather sets a new high water mark in imaginative, effective book design. Add the fact that it's intelligent, sexy and really, really cool and you end up with a book that is certainly the most enjoyable I have handled in the last few years. And it's fun. It comes in a box overprinted with a black and white crazy paving design. Open that up and there's a cloth-covered slipcase, again with a black and white design. Then you're into the book. The cover is an unsaturated picture of a girl in a bikini. Pale pinks and light blues mix with a beach ball, an ice-cream and some big Brazilian buttocks. Yay, we're not in Kansas anymore! Lester B. Morrison: House of Coates
"Utilizing everything from zine formats, spiral bindings, folded pages, to books within books, LBM creates memorable books that are affordable, with more than a tinge of DIY mentality. Though small in stature, LBM is huge in its influence on contemporary photographic practice. Case in point is House of Coates by Minneapolis writer and LBM collaborator, Brad Zellar. House of Coates is also the name of a real life, much beloved bar & grill in Rosemont, Minnesota, near the Twin Cities where the LBM crew resides, famous for their Swanee burger. 2012 PhotoBook Awards Shortlists
The PhotoBook Awards from Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation have just released the shortlisted titles for PhotoBook of the Year and First PhotoBook prizes. With 30 titles total, 10 for the PhotoBook of the Year and 20 for the First PhotoBook prize, the list is an embarrassment of riches, and I think it's safe to say that we can expect a number of these titles on our 2012 Best Books list (and you may recognize a few that were already on our 2011 list).
