photo-eye and Santa Fe University of Art and Design are pleased to host a panel discussion with local book publishers and art photographers on their experience in the field of photobook publishing. Join us for a lively discussion about working with established publishers, self-publishing, and fundraising for your photobook. The panel will be moderated by photo-eye Book Division Manager Melanie McWhorter and will include three panelists from the world of book publishing, personal fundraising and book packaging: Maggie Blanchard, Alexandra Huddleston and Joanna Hurley.

Maggie Blanchard is Director of Twin Palms Publishers. For over thirty years Twin Palms has published exceptional photography and art books with an emphasis on monographs. Each beautifully made book honors the original work while creating an object that has a life of its own. Formerly, Maggie was Co-Director of Center. Her experience at Center gave her the opportunity to view thousands of portfolios and gain familiarity with the network of industry professionals.

Alexandra Huddleston is an American photographer who was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and grew up in the Washington, DC area and in West Africa. She holds a BA from Stanford University and an MS in broadcast journalism from Columbia University. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Zeit Magazine, and National Geographic Explorer, and exhibited in group and solo shows worldwide. In 2007 she was awarded a Fulbright Grant to photograph and research the legacy of traditional Islamic scholarship in Timbuktu, Mali. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Huddleston is publishing her first artists' book, Lost Things, under her own imprint, The Kyoudai Press. Visit her website here.

For the past twenty years Joanna Hurley has been president of HurleyMedia, LLC, an award-winning agency that packages and promotes fine art and photography books for a variety of publishers and arts organizations. She is also a co-founder of Radius Books, and longtime board member of CENTER, a not-for-profit organization based in Santa Fe that supports and provides opportunity for gifted, committed photographers.

 photo-eye Book Reviews
Sophie Calle: The Address Book

"It is not often that one can honestly describe a photobook as 'a page-turner,' however beautiful or well-designed it might be. Yet I found myself taking this small, modest volume out on the subway - snatching the opportunity to read another entry - or picking it up in the middle of reading another book, to find out what might next be revealed about film-maker 'Pierre D,' the unsuspecting subject of Calle's controversial investigation." — from Faye Robson's review of The Address Book by Sophie Calle
