Portfolio & Interview: Ernie Button's Vanishing Spirits

We are pleased to debut another selection of images from Ernie Button's Vanishing Spirits series. Between his Vanishing Spirits and Cerealism portfolios, Button has received a lot of attention on the internet recently, appearing internationally on blogs in such notable places as NPR, Colossal, The Daily Mail, Huffington Post, Boing Boing, Wired and many, many more. Button's colorful images have a wide appeal, but what makes them intriguing is the way they capture the imagination. Looking into the delicate lines and saturated colors, the mind easily wanders to distant planets and alien landscapes. The question immediately arises — what are we looking at?

Andrey Tarkovsky: Films, Stills, Polaroids & Writings

"How does one contain a film within a book? Distill the 24 frames per second into the pages of a book? In many respects, any such attempt is half-hearted and can only point and freeze moments from something fluid. Andrey Tarkovsky is a towering figure in film history influencing such contemporary directors as Bla Tar, Hou Hsaio-Hsien and Theo Angelopoulos, as well as countless others." — from Adam Bell's review of Films, Stills, Polaroids & Writings by Andrey Tarkovsky

Johan Willner: Boy Stories

"Boy Stories combines documentary and staged photography in order to explore a series of Johan Willner's deep-rooted childhood memories. In his introduction Willner poetically reminisces about growing up in Sweden and talks about how his father's mental breakdown affected him as a youth. Willner creates a child like point of view by showing us the minute details of his everyday life. He then intersperses this imagery with more dramatic and uncanny incidents from his childhood." — from John Mathews' review of Boy Stories by Johan Willner

photo-eyeAuctions
Leading off this week's auctions is a major Koudelka rarity, a SIGNED copy of the Czech magazine Respekt devoted to Koudelka's photos of the Soviet invasion of 1968. A must for Koudelka fans!

Also up, signed books by Sebastio Salgado, Susan Meiselas, Sally Mann, Ray K. Metzker and much more! Thanks as always for looking!!

Mark Power: Mass Mark Power: Mass—Signed

"MASS, the new book by Mark Power, examines the dominance and influence of the Catholic church in Poland. photo-eye has some of the last remaining copies of this terrific photobook, which is sold out from the publisher.
Very limited supply remaining. Order immediately.

While living in Poland during the autumn and winter of 2010/11 Mark Power sought permission to photograph over fifty Catholic church services in the southern city of Krakow. Power, a lapsed Catholic, had already become fascinated by the great numbers attending Mass each day and by the intensity of faith on display, appearing to cross borders of class and age, often in settings of spectacular beauty." —the publisher

Sam Falls: Problems With Decomposition Sam Falls: Problems With Decomposition—Signed

"Sam Falls explores the intersection of color, perception, digital imagery and natural processes, and in the case of Problems with Decomposition, Sam Falls also brings into context the element of temporal existence.
