Artist Talk on Saturday, July 20th at 3pm.
Exhibition runs through September 21, 2013.

photo-eye Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of our next exhibition, Storms by Mitch Dobrowner. The exhibition celebrates Dobrowner's forthcoming book from Aperture, Storms, due in September 2013.

For the past few years, Mitch Dobrowner has been chasing larger-than-life storms across America, making surreal black & white photographs of their magnificent power. Dobrowner's stunning images bear witness to Mother Nature's double-edged sword: one of destruction as well as cultivation.

 photo-eye Auctions
For the post-4th-of-July holiday weekend, some delectable photobooks on which to feast your eyes! For a one-two photobook-fiction punch sure to delight the art history geeks among us, I can't think of any better combination than Ugo Mulas' 1967, New York: The New Art Scene and the brilliant recent novel by Rachael Kushner, The Flamethrowers, set in the art world of 1970s New York. Warhol associate Gerard Malanga appears with his 1984 artist's book, Autobiography of a Sex Thief.

For the ultimate in Easy Rider-era biker style — done the Japanese 'Bosozoku' way — Fumiaki Fukuda's One Night Carnival is not to be believed! Tumultuous seas have never looked better than in the lush gravure of Pierre Jahan's 1934 classic of 'maritime abstraction', Mer (Sea).

Plus: a lovely example of the hardbound first edition of Bruce Davidson's East 100th Street ; David Goldblatt's On the Mines; Signed books by Constantin Manos & Much More!

Bids shown below are current as of 4:38 pm MT, 07.10.2013
If you have auction items (valued at $250 or more) to consign, please e-mail us.

 photo-eye Book Reviews
Ed Ruscha and Some Los Angeles Apartments

"A half-century after he helped to pioneered it, Ruscha's style is not only fashionable — it seems prescient. Typologies are everywhere. Banality has been thoroughly mined, as have been found photos and appropriated imagery. And photobooks, once a secondary avenue for expression, are now arguably the medium's dominant form. It only took 50 years but the photo world is finally catching up to Ruscha in 1963." — from Blake Andrews' review of Ed Ruscha and Some Los Angeles Apartments

Ivan Pinkava: Remains

"Ultimately, Remains is an enigma. I remain convinced that I lack the cultural knowledge to fully engage with what is going on in the images, and one thing made clear by the introductory essay is that complex intellectual and cultural ideas are informing the photographs. Nevertheless, taken at face value it is a curious book, especially for fans of black & white portraiture and nude figure studies." — from David Ondrik's review of Remains by Ivan Pinkava
