Book of the Week: A Pick by Hannes Wanderer
Falling From a Height by Martijn Berk

"'falling from a height
the story of an obsession
for a 20-year old boy

intimacy
Apollo vs. Dyonisus

more than 4.000 photos
in an honest story

sexuality
voyeurism'

These are the buzz words that the 34-year-old photographer uses in the trailer for his book and I don't want to add anything.

Only that the book — with 50 large-format black & white images, a few thousand mini pics flooding the pages like movie clips and text fragments by Oscar van den Boogaard — keeps the promise of the trailer. You can't just stand on the sideline making comments." — Hannes Wanderer

The Green Fuse project documents the visual and biological transformation of a forest in the days, months, and years following a major wildfire. Swedish photographer JH Engström is credited by Parr & Badger with inventing what they call, "a new genre that depicts a veiled, oblique, almost novelistic view of modern life..." Set against the glacial lyricism of Icelandic 'post-rockers' Sigur Rós, Photobook Remix #4 features five of Engström's very hard-to-find books, along with the maximalist religiosity of Miguel Rio Branco's Silent Book; Paris- Les cathedrales inconnues; and the sharply observed Holy Crap by Rob Pruitt.

Bids shown below are current as of 3:29 pm MT, 08.21.2013

Vanessa Winship: she dances on Jackson

"A road trip across America photographed with large-format black & white film is fertile ground for nostalgia and romanticism to grow upon. Vanessa Winship avoids these photographic pitfalls with her new book she dances on Jackson. She has created a direct, yet metaphoric record of her travels that is both timeless and descriptive of the present." — from Tom Leininger's review of she dances on Jackson by Vanessa Winship

AMC2 Journal: Issue 6: Space Conquerers!

"The images in Space Conquerers!... are mostly promotional images, portraits, memorabilia and other material readily made for consumption — postcards of rocket launches from every conceivable angle and instructions on how to launch a toy rocket, coloring book images about the history of space exploration... You won't see anything exceptionally shocking or unexpected in issue 6, but the book is cleverly designed to create a certain oddness, playing with the differences between what we know and what we see." — from Sarah Bradley's review of Issue 6: Space Conquerers! by AMC2 Journal

Guy Bourdin: A Message For You

"Guy Bourdin is a photographer of limited range and repetitive imagination, but also unique vision. His apparent obsessions are constricted in content and tone: dollish models with painted faces, the frame within a frame, light and its reflective qualities. These themes pervade his work, giving his photographs a trademark flavor and creating an arranged world, a Bourdin world." — from Christopher J. Johnson's review of A Message For You by Guy Bourdin

 Santa Fe Photographic Workshops
A Word from Santa Fe Photographic Workshops

Breaking News! We were able to renegotiate with some of our San Miguel vendors and the price of each San Miguel de Allende workshop has been reduced by $400! We are returning to San Miguel de Allende October 13 through November 2 and for the Fall 2013 San Miguel program: Joe McNally, Arthur Meyerson, Amy Toensing, Holly Wilmeth, Jock Sturges, Jennifer Spelman, and Sarah Meghan Lee.

Earlier this year The New York Times ran a 36 Hours in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico article; we, of course recommend a week-long workshop.

Visit www.santafeworkshops.com for all the details and the full schedule of upcoming workshops.
