Book of the Week: A Pick by David Carol
The Americans List edited by Jason Eskenazi

"Jason gave me a copy of the book a few months ago. I have it sitting on a bookshelf devoted to photobooks I've acquired recently. It seems to be the one I go to most often. I pick it up and read a few of the photographers responses then put it back for another day. It never gets boring and it's a treat every time I take a look." — David Carol

More copies arriving in 2-4 weeks. Reserve your copy here.

Sally Mann: Southern Landscape Sally Mann: Southern Landscape

From John Stauffer's text: "In this new age of finance, digital technology, and quick surface effects, Sally Mann's photographs are our evangels of the eye, enabling us to walk more gladly and lightly. Confronting her work is like discovering a new, mysterious and beautiful world. It offers a way to redeem a society that is in decline from greed and pettiness. For like the other truly great and enduring artists, she has remained faithful to the love of craft, only using technology in the service of her eye and aesthetic, creating beauty and re-enchanting the world for the viewer and reader." —the publisher READ MORE

Dayanita Singh: File Room

"Dayanita Singh's File Room is a collection of images documenting record and file rooms in India. Gathered for over a decade, the photographs capture the paper records of factories, government offices, and personal archives. The papers in these archives trace multi-generational court trials, lineages of possession and exchange. Some make recurring journeys to courtrooms, others wait on shelves for decades to prove themselves useful, and all, most likely, will disintegrate entirely." — from Nicholas Chiarella's review of File Room by Dayanita Singh

Rafal Milach: Black Sea of Concrete

"Awash in concrete, the landscape of post-Soviet Eastern Europe lives with the stubborn remnants of the Soviet age. Intractable and cruelly resistant, the concrete buildings and monoliths are both an obstacle to progress and a crumbling reminder of an older age. Rafal Milach's Black Sea of Concrete explores the coastal landscape of modern Ukraine as it lives with this formidable legacy while also struggling to move forward. Trapped between an oppressive but known past and an uncertain future, the path ahead is far from clear." — from Adam Bell's review of Black Sea of Concrete by Rafal Milach

"For this installment, we traverse a snowy Colorado landscape in LBM Dispatch #5 by Alec Soth & Brad Zellar, consider the connection between religious poetry and photographs of nature in Prayers in an American Church by Robert Adams, and dive into an abstract, murky world of black & white photographs in Back Yard by Daisuke Yokota." — Erin Azouz
