New Director Appointed to Center for Creative Photography
Dr. Douglas R. Nickel has been selected as the fourth director of the Center for Creative Photography. Nickel’s background as a curator, scholar, and professor is well suited to leading the multi-faceted CCP, an archive, museum, and research center within a university environment. Carla Stoffle, Dean of Libraries and CCP, observes that, "Doug represents the best of the new generation of art historians. He has experience in exhibitions, community outreach, and is a well-respected scholar."

David Torcoletti's New Portfolio Road, River, Rail
"I have always been interested in the seams of the world, the places where edges meet and meaning overlaps. My work in this series investigates the physical and psychological textures of these seams, from the way buildings, bridges, and landforms meet the river, to the ways that the river itself reflects light and creates movement."—David Torcoletti   Read more

KATE BREAKEY: Birds—Flowers. Kate Breakey: Birds—Flowers.
Two separate series—Birds on one side and Flowers on the other—are featured in this beautifully produced accordion-fold artist's book. For several years now, Breakey has been memorializing the small creatures that live and die in our proximity in large format photographs that are vibrantly hand-colored. She has used the same technique with flowers, producing extraordinary results.

Thomas Ruff: Nudes Thomas Ruff: Nudes
Ruff is another graduate of the Becher's master class at the Dusseldorf Academy of Art. His most recent work involves appropriated images from internet porn sites. Ruff blurs the photographs, changes their color, and greatly enlarges them—by altering them in these various ways, he completely recontextualizes the imagery and pushes to the foreground the isolation inherent in all pornography.

Lars Tunbjörk: Home Lars Tunbjörk: Home—Signed
Made primarily in the suburbs of Stockholm, Tunbjörk's saturated color photographs immediately call to mind William Eggleston's images of suburban America. But upon a closer look, Tunbjörk's style and method is far less 'democratic' than the American master. There is an homage to structure taking place within these pages that is decidedly quieter than the often raucousness of Eggleston's world.

Robert Maxwell Robert Maxwell
Bursting onto the competitive fashion and editorial scene in the past several years, Maxwell has created a stunning parallel body of personal work—studio portraits of family, friends, and absolute strangers—using the technically demanding nineteenth century wet-plate ambrotye process. A gorgeous first monograph now out-of-print and sure to increase in value.
