Grace Weston's portfolio Short Stories/Tall Tales
"For the subject matter of my photography, I construct sets as well as fabricate and find props and characters to express my "inner" world, creating vignettes that incorporate narration, humor and a sense of psychological tension."— Grace Weston

John Chervinsky and Hiroyasu Matsui now showing in photo-eye Gallery
Accompanying the current exhibition of Mark Klett's anthropomorphic Saguaro portraits at photo-eye's main Gallery, is a small curated selection from our online Photographer's Showcase gallery.
John Chervinsky explains that his conceptual still lifes juxtapose chalk markings on blackboards with real objects in an attempt to "engage collaboration with the viewer, the images are conceived symbolically, to form an open-ended framework... [thus] posing questions without easy answers."
Also on display in the Gallery is Hiroyasu Matsui's complexely-created and graphically-dynamic non-digital still lifes. His work is rooted in the suprematistic school and the work of László Moholy-Nagy.

| William Klein: Unanimite (Rare Late 60s Citroën DS Catalogue!) Citroën—producers of among the most avant-garde auto designs ever marketed on a mainstream basis—always prided itself on its collaborations with artists, which over the years included Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau, Jean-Paul Goude, and Marc Riboud. For this late sixties catalogue, Klein honed in on the futuristic, aerodynamic design elements that made the DS (pronounced 'Déesse'—Goddess!) one of the most unique cars ever made. A fantastic item!! |

Bettina Rheims: Chambre Close
Due December. Preorder now.
"The artistic collaboration of photographer Bettina Rheims and writer/art critic Serge Bramly began in 1991 with Chambre Close, which Schirmer/Mosel is publishing for the first time. It lives off the stimulating contrast between text and images. The cultivated literary tone of Monsieur X's fictional 'confessions' is set against photographs that speak a far clearer language. Bettina Rheims has a command of this language, which tells of female eroticism and exhibitionism as no one else does."—the publisher

Michael Abrams: Strange and Singular
Wonderful use of vernacular imagery that comes with three randomly inserted original photos.
"This first book by Michael Abrams is an album in which the artist's image makes only a fleeting appearance, yet whose hand touches every page. A journey informed by a quote from Michel Foucault? a readiness to find strange and singular what surrounds us; a certain relentlessness to break up our familiarities and to regard otherwise the same things; a fervor to grasp what is happening and what passes; a casualness in regard to the traditional hierarchies of the important and the essential'."—the publisher READ MORE
