Just arrived this week, copies of Katherine Avenue by Larry Sultan, published by the kestnergesellschaft in Hannover. Bringing together images from three of the late artist's best known series — "Pictures from Home", "The Valley" and "Homeland" — Katherine Avenue offers a comprehensive look at some of Sultan's most powerful photographs. From a long term look at his parents, to pornographic film sets in suburban McMansions and flawlessly tended landscapes offset by day laborers, Sultan's work represents one of the most nuanced readings of the American dream, impossibly glamourous yet deeply banal. Copies are in stock and available for order.
Also just in, copies of Before Color by William Eggleston, published by Steidl in Gottingen. Almost a decade before his (and ultimately our own) "discovery" of color film, William Eggleston was already taking high-speed, 35mm black and white photographs which in style, form and subject are the clear ancestors of his most iconic images. Several years ago, a box of this early work was discovered in the Eggleston trust, exhibited and sold. Now, these images are finally being made widely available through Before Color, the plates of which were scanned from vintage prints made in Eggleston's own darkroom. Though these are not the first of Eggleston's black and white images to be published — who can forget the incredible 5x7 (Twin Palms, 2006) — they are the first which entirely preceded his color work, shedding new light on to one of Photography's most famous sons. Copies are now in stock and available for order.
Please note that adding a book to your shopping cart does not reserve a copy; orders must be finalized to appear in our system.
