Just arrived from Radius Books, Shoshone Falls by legendary American landscape photographer Thomas Joshua Cooper and Timothy O'Sullivan, photographer on the nineteenth-century geological surveys lead by Clarence King and George M.Wheeler. For this project, Cooper traveled to the Shoshone Falls in Idaho to photograph one of the most sublime landscapes of the American West, where the Snake River plummets down a 212 foot rock face. While not a re-photographic project per se, Shoshone Falls presents a dialogue between Cooper and O'Sullivan, whose early landscapes of the American West are foundational. This stunning new monograph includes eighteen plates by Cooper and nine by O'Sullivan, each printed in an exquisite tritone. Copies signed by Thomas Joshua Cooper are now in stock and available for order.
Newly arrived at our warehouse, Aurora Borealis by Swedish photographer Agnes Thor and published by Morel Books in London. In Aurora Borealis, Thor manages to present photographs which suggest the book's title — a play about the crisp Nordic winter where, despite the ostensibly harsh conditions, there is the background hum of ephemeral play — the sky dances, melts and becomes a kind of seasonal narcotic, lacing the long nights with a fantastical edge. The tenuous relationship between the bleakness of the longest season, and the extraordinary sensual pleasures it reveals, is at the heart of this wonderful collection of photographs. Beautifully printed on heavyweight stock, sewn together as a single signature with bright red thread and bound in pink, debossed cover, this exquisite monograph is now in stock and available for order.
