Adam and Eve. Photographs by Nobuyuki Wakabayashi (with Old Testament text in English with facing text in Japanese). Tokyo, Nittatsushpan, 1970. Unpaged. First edition. SIGNED on a separate sheet that has been tipped onto front free-endpaper. Clothbound in illustrated dust jacket. Black-and-white reproductions.

Wakabayashi's trippy, out-of-this-world interpretation of the Book of Genesis. Cited in Alessandro Bertolotti, The Books of Nudes, the volume is an astonishing synthesis of the blurry, rough, high-contrast aesthetic of the Provoke photographers and a psychedelic-erotic' approach that borders on kitsch while still retaining a darkly weird and mystical undercurrent. Highly recommended!

Fine- in Near Fine dust jacket; just a trace of wear and a few spots of foxing to boards; light foxing to verso of jacket; small chip and closed tear (1/4") at crown of spine; some wear to upper edge with some adjacent creasing.
