An account by Herbert Baldwin, press photographer of Central News Ltd., of London, of his personal experiences during the war of 1912 between Turkey and the Allied Balkan States. In addition to providing a compelling account and a unique photographic record of the war itself, Baldwin devotes chapter to, "the press photographer in the field of war". With photojournalism still in its infancy, Baldwin presciently predicts the future of war photography, recognizing that the a press photographer on a battlefield needs not only the mechanical ability to take photographs, but also a "journalistic instinct" lest he misses the point of "the story".
Baldwin later became an official photographer working for the Australian Imperial Force during the WWI, operating in the Somme and other areas along the Western Front.
