The highly influential quarterly photo-journal Déjà-vu began publishing in 1990 with Iizawa Kohtaro as editor-in-chief. In terms of production value--gorgeous printing, heavy paper stock--each issue is really more of a book than a magazine. If one were to venture a comparison, Déjà-vu would stand up quite favorably in all respects to Blind Spot or FOAM. Over its twenty-issue run, Déjà-vu featured work by every major name in post-war Japanese photography, with many Westerners also in the mix. Issue no. 1 with work by Kikuji Kawada, Daido Moriyama, Robert Frank and others. Issue no. 2 with work by Irving Penn, Michiko Kon, Kishin Shinoyama, and others.
