Az Igazi Ady (The Real Ady). Text by György Bölöni. Photographs by André Kertész and others. Editions Atelier de Paris, Paris, 1934. 387 pp. First edition (reprinted 1947 & 1955). Stiff printed wrappers. Black-and-white photographs including 15 by André Kertész. Text in Hungarian.

A rare volume that places the work of Kertész in an important contemporary context! Among several of Kertész's earliest appearances in print (Enfants, 1933; Paris Vu par André Kertész, 1934; Nos Amies Les Bêtes, 1936) for a project that was closer to his heart than many.
Endre Ady (1877-1919) was perhaps the most beloved Hungarian poet of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A Symbolist, expressionist and great Francophile, he lived in Paris on and off between 1904 and 1911. While there he composed numerous poems and articles on Parisian life for the Hungarian press. György Bölöni, (1882-1959), a close friend of Ady's, was an important figure among Hungarian emigres in Paris between the wars, when he and wrote this book about Ady. He asked Kertész for photographs inspired by Ady's poetry; they collaborated closely on the book's design.

A fragile book; expert repair to backstrip/upper joint; moderate wear to edges with very slight losses (visible in illustrations); area of light abrasion to rear wrapper with some tiny spots of residue and a faint stamp.
