The first French edition of a classic of deeply felt social documentary (published simultaneously with German edition). Swedish photographer Anders Petersen, began photographing this seedy cafe near the harbor in Hamburg--think of a Tom Waits song come to life--at the end of the 60s. As Parr & Badger write, what Petersen's images depict "should not be regarded as a freak show, even if many of his subjects were lonely, desperate, nasty, sad people, down on their luck. [He] captured what more distinguished names have failed to convey--the authentic whiff of down-beat urban life."
