Träume kosten keinen Peso oder: Die Kinder von KOKA-KOKA (Dreams are free of peso or: The Children of COCA COCA). H.O. Goepfert. Goepfert S. Verlag, Berlin, 1973. Unpaged. Quarto (10 in./25.5). Stiff printed wrappers. Black-and-white reproductions of screen-printed photographs and illustrations.
Deserves to be ranked with the great Latin American books of the 70s! Hans-Otto Goepfert is little-known book artist of rare talents who founded his own press in 1972. This singular book documents the Latin American cocaine trade using text, illustrations and high-contrast photos that are grainy and graphic in their style. Loosely translated, the jacket copy explains, "the famous photographer flees civilization to follow the steps Columbus, walking in the footsteps of the Conquistadors by the sun, reaching the Incas, laden with cultural baggage, he rides tilts at the windmills of European sterility much like Don Quixote."
Fragile binding; front endpaper loose; otherwise Near Fine, with slight fading to spine.
