In this unusual book, Bill Burke has combined his photographs of religious snake handlers with explicit images of animal and human surgery. He interweaves this work with quotes by St. Mark on the subject of demons. Also included are passages from Richard Selzer's Mortal Lessons, in which Selzer writes of entering the body during surgery. A beautifully designed book with full page bleeds, collages, and drawings that contribute to Burke's unsettling view.
