Chefs-d'oeuvre des photographes anonymes. Pierre de Fenoyl and Jacques Laurent. Hachette, [Paris], 1982. First edition. Quarto. Cloth in photo-illustrated dustjacket. 213 pp.
A compelling collection of anonymous nineteenth century photographs from the collection of Jean Henry. It includes a fine selection of uncommon nudes, telling individual and unusual group portraits, bucolic genre scenes, village scenes, and more. In the past few years there has been a new surge of interest among photographic image collectors in 'vernacular' images such as the ones in this collection. Scarce.
A fine copy in dustjacket; minor soling and two closed half-inch tears at top edge of back panel of dustjacket, two small pale smudge marks on the blank front endpaper, and one 3/8 inch stray mark on front of jacket.
