Le Nu en Photographie. Text by Marcel Natkin. Editions Mana, Paris, 1937. First edition. Small quarto. Photo-illustrated wrappers. 37 pp. text + 32 interspersed gravure plates + 3 pp. ads.
A well-designed book with an historical and aesthetic discussion of the nude in art and photography, beautifully illustrated with a section of eight rich gravure plates each by Laure Albin-Guillot, Pierre Boucher, Man Ray, and Roger Schall. The nudes are female, with two exceptions. A pleasing, representative example of the French sensibility in photographic book design of the thirties.
A fine copy, save for a spot of wear at the top of the spine and a light crease at the top outer corner of the back cover. With the protective tissue-glassine. |
