The History of Photography from 1839 to the Present Day. Text by Beaumont Newhall. Quarto. Hardbound with library protected dust jacket. Over 160 reproductions. Includes sources for quotations and bibliography. Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1949. 256 pp. A book that goes to great effort to incorporate photography into the history of Modernism. Produced by MoMA only four years after they mounted their first-ever solo exhibition by a photographer (Paul Strand in 1945). Protected dust jacket has some edge wear and chipping; otherwise Fine.

Photography in the Twentieth Century. Text by Nathan Lyons. Photographs by numerous artists. Squarish quarto. Hardbound. Numerous black-and-white reproductions. George Eastman House of Photography, Rochester, NY, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada, 1967. According to Lyons, this book is a "visual anthology of the picture making concerns of photographers in the Twentieth Century." Fine.
