An invaluable reference that includes biographical information, chronology, and bibliography. German photography of the 20s and 30s has become the most fertile period for study in that country's history of the medium. Widely influential, the photographers during that time, including Dr. Erich Salomon, Herbert Bayer, Karl Blossfeldt, Moholy-Nagy, and August Sander, among others, explored both experimental and straight approaches to photography. Van Deren Coke, curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, has written a historical account of the economical and political climate that spurred this movement.
