Creative Camera Art. Dr. Max Thorek. Fomo Publishing Company, Canton, Ohio, 1937. First edition. Quarto. Three color cloth with simple thirties design. 156 pp. with sepia photographs throughout.

Max Thorek was both a Chicago surgeon and a leading pictorialist photographer in the 1930's and 1940's. He was a member of England's Royal Photographic Society, and contributed prolifically to photographic salons of the period; his archive of creative photographs was acquired by The Brooklyn Museum. Thorek was one of the photographers featured in Christian A. Peterson's After the Photo-Secession(1997),and in it he wrote: "Thorek was an acknowledged master of the paper negative process, the most widely used manipulative technique between the world wars. He considered the camera-generated negative mere raw material in the makinng of creative photographs, and he freely used pencil, crayons, and even stove polish to hand-alter his imagery." Thorek preferred working indoors, and specialized in portraits and female figure studies.

A very good copy, with some wear to some corner tips.
