THIS LOT CONSISTS OF ONE BOOK AND ONE CATALOGUE: Les Femmes (1973) by J. H. Lartigue (shown), and The Photographs of Jacques Henri Lartigue, MOMA (1963).
Les Femmes. J.H. Lartigue. Editions du Chene, Paris, 1973. The true first edition. Small quarto. Turquoise cloth with mounted color photographic illustration. 3 pp. text + 101 black-and-white gravure and color halftone photographs + note by Lartigue and fold-out list of captions. Lartigue brings the Frenchman's sensibility to the observation of the fair sex, with images that display glamour, grace, and whimsy. Amazingly, the photographs cover a seventy year span, from 1903 to 1973. A fine copy, save for a 1/4 inch snag in the cloth near the top outer edge. In clear glassine.
The Photographs of Jacques Henri Lartigue. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1963. Small quarto. Black wrappers with white lettering. Two page essay by John Szarkowski + 28 halftone photo-plates of Lartigue's early photographs; some of his most important images were taken before he was sixteen years old. Very good with a couple thin short edge scrapes and some general light use to covers.
