Jaromir Funke, Fotografie. Ludvik Soucek. Odeon, Praha, 1970. First edition. Large octavo. White cloth stamped in black in photo-illustrated dustjacket.
30 pp. text + 132 gravure photographs.
The thoughtfully sequenced gravure images show Funke's range and mastery, and are printed one to a page or double-page spread. His finest realistic work has elements of the New Objectivity, Functionalist, and surrealist aesthetics, and his abstract images that played with light and form were among the best of their time. Funke was an influential member of a succession of photographic societies in Prague throughout the modernist era, exhibited in international salons from 1924 to 1938, and taught photography in Bratislava and Prague.
A fine copy with very faint tanning at the very top and bottom of covers; dustjacket has occasional light edge-rubbing, light tanning at top edge of back cover, and one closed 3/4 inch tear at top edge of front panel near the spine (reinforced with 'invisible' archival tape on the reverse). In clear glassine.
